Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? Rev 15 v 4.
Worship is the first duty of man and indeed a great privilege for a Christian. At Ridley Hall we believe in what is known as the Regulative Principle as held by our Calvinistic forbears. This teaches that we worship in a way glorifying to God and will only incorporate into our services things that are positively commanded in the New Testament. Fearing the solemn example of Nadab and Abihu in Leviticus chapter 10, we do not want to offer to God anything that He has not commanded. For this reason we reject many worldly ideas that have sadly affected the worship in some Churches and Assemblies today believing them to be not of God. If God is Holy He must be exalted as such and receives no honour from much of the pop orientated music, drama or any other such man made inventions of this modern day and age.
We also reject so called “open worship” seeing it as unscriptural. In 1 Corinthians 14 v 40 we read “Let all things be done decently and in order”. The word “order” in the original Greek means something akin to regular arrangement and fixed succession. Our services are simple and straight forward seeking to bring honour to God and not man.
The preaching of the Word of God plays a central part in our services and it is our desire that men, women and young people might revere it in accordance with Isaiah 66 v 2:
